KIDSKIN
The Kid is the baby goat. With a carefree, happy-go-lucky disposition, he is an inquisitive fellow who butts his way around, sniffling into everybody's business. A rogue he is, but he provides the fashionable world with proper kid gloves and smart coats.
The finest kidskin comes from China, where the hair grows silkier than in skins from Africa and India, which, however, are highly acceptable in the Fur world.
Kidskin is sometimes so beautifully marked that it resembles broadtail, or just-born lambskin. Older kid grows wavy hair, while older lamb grows curly hair. In their younger stages it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between the lamb and the goat. Hence we have Kid Caracul, which is kid skin that resembles lambskin.
Kidskin makes a smart garment, either in its natural gray color or dyed in tones of brown. Today it may take bizarre colorings, sometimes appearing in blue. It is a sleek and chic Fur, but does not wear well as the leather is tender and it is likely to give way at the edges. Nor is it particularly warm.
Kidskin is sometimes stencilled to simulate leopard or giraffe, or it may be pressed into lizard or novel patterns. Both kidskin and lambskin are frequently termed Golyak.
When the top hairs are removed, full grown goatskin is sold as Chinese or Russian Mouflon, after the wild goats of Corsica and Sardinia. It takes brilliant dyes but is apt to mat and become ragged looking.
